It is with shock and deep sadness that we learned of the death of Dr. David H. Welch, former President and CEO of Stone Energy. To say that Dave was a strong advocate of United Way of Acadiana is an understatement. A board member for seven years, he served as Campaign Chair in 2008-2009 and Chairman of the Board in 2011-2012. He was a member of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society and his strong ties to United Way of Acadiana led to an invaluable relationship between Stone Energy and United Way of Acadiana. Under Dave’s leadership, he oversaw a 900% growth in the company’s workplace giving campaign, which included their highly successful Gumbo Cook-off on behalf of UWA.
David’s brilliant, strategic thinking and generosity was invaluable to the region, and in particular, to United Way of Acadiana. “He was a master tactician, an optimist and had such a joy for life,” says United Way of Acadiana’s President and CEO, Margaret Trahan. “Dave was a strong advocate of early childhood education and a champion of the Leader in Me whole-school transformation process. His enthusiasm was heartfelt and inspirational.”
“David was a wonderful individual in addition to being one of Acadiana’s premier leaders. He led and inspired other companies and individuals to work together on important issues in our community. He will be missed; however, his positive influence will forever be embedded in Acadiana,” says Rob Eddy, United Way of Acadiana’s Chairman of the Board.
Dave’s authenticity and dedication to education, financial stability, health and environmental concerns will long be remembered and his loss deeply felt. United Way of Acadiana extends our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
